Duration: 120 Hours
COURSE PREREQUISITES:
All Executive/Dignitary Protection courses are restricted to regular
and reserve law enforcement officers, federal agents, military
personnel and qualified civilian security professionals and others who
can successfully pass a background check. All ITG® training
courses are dynamic and are not limited to classroom exercises. Each
attendee must be physically capable of jogging short distances and able
to perform the strenuous exercises common in tactical and protective
operations.
INTRODUCTION TO PROTECTIVE SERVICES - (1.5 hour lecture/discussion)
Introduction to the field of executive protection. Protection is
provided against assassination, kidnapping, injury and/or embarrassment
primarily through pro-active measures with emphasis placed on
prevention. Concepts pertaining to Attack on Principal (AOP) Drills and
the doctrine of Cover and Evacuate discussed.
INTRODUCTION TO PROTECTIVE SERVICES WEAPONS AND EQUIPMENT - (1.5 hour lecture)
Students are exposed to the various kinds of weapons and equipment used
by executive protection agents. Discussion centers on appropriate wear
and use of this equipment relative to the executive protection
environment.
PROTOCOL AND ETIQUETTE - (1.5 hour lecture/discussion)
Protocol
and etiquette as it relates to and impacts personal protective
operations, especially those conducted in a diplomatic environment
discussed in depth.
THREAT ASSESSMENT - (2 hour lecture/discussion)
An introduction to various kinds of potential threats and motivating
factors, threat information collection and identification of various
sources of information, is given. A discussion of how this information
can be utilized when structuring the protective detail or responding to
changing circumstances will be held.
PROTECTIVE SERVICES UNARMED COMBAT TECHNIQUES - (6.5 hour demonstration and practice)
Instruction and practice on techniques certified by Compliance Direction Takedown
® (CDT
®) – the world’s only trademarked and patent pending non-deadly force system. The CDT
®
system is specifically designed to help reduce a person’s civil and
criminal liabilities in the event they must use justifiable force in a
situation to protect oneself or another party. Considered the most
appropriate system for executive protection agents in the world today,
individual certification is provided to each student.
ADVANCE OPERATIONS - (7 hour lecture/discussion)
Exposure
to a myriad of advance techniques designed to give them the widest
possible spectrum of ability. Information pertaining to advancing
locations such as hotels, meeting rooms, restaurants, airports and
other areas presented. Development of site specific security and
contingency plans discussed. Actual locations frequented by the
principal used for the practical exercise.
FORMATIONS (DISMOUNTED & MOUNTED) - (4 hour lecture/discussion; 12 hour practical exercise)
Dismounted and mounted formations identified. AOP Drill for response to
hand grenades provided. Roles and responsibilities discussed in detail.
Special situations, such as entering buildings, working fence lines and
mounting and dismounting of vehicles presented. AOP Drills practiced
from various formations. Attack recognition case studies explored and
discussed.
SECURITY POST OPERATIONS (COMMAND, ESTATE, RESIDENCE & OFFICE) - (4 hour lecture/discussion)
The
duties and responsibilities of a protective agent assigned to various
security post positions will be outlined and discussed. The role of
various security posts in protective operations and recommended
equipment will be identified. Various scenarios that may develop, and
appropriate responses to them, will be discussed.
IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICES - (3 hour lecture/discussion)
Characteristics
of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) provided. Role of Explosive
Ordinance Disposal Teams and Explosive Detection Dog Teams identified
and discussed. Mail handling procedures and letter and parcel bomb
recognition points presented.
BUILDING & VEHICLE SEARCH PROCEDURES - (2 hour lecture/discussion; 2 hour practical exercise)
Effective methodology for searching buildings and vehicles for the
presence of IED taught. Field expedient methods and equipment
identified. Specific procedures for dealing with suspect items
presented and discussed. Coordination and reporting to law enforcement
authorities discussed. Students participate in a practical exercise
involving the search of vehicles and buildings.
OPERATIONAL MEDICAL RESPONSE - (8 hour lecture/discussion with practical exercises)
Exposure to the dynamics of treating injuries that can be expected from
an attack on a principal, including methodology to be used in the event
that the protective team is still engaged in a confrontation when the
need arises to provide first responder support to their principal or
other teammates. Training begins with familiarization of basic First
Aid treatments, Adult Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and Automated
External Defibrillators and culminates in practical exercises that
start with simulated AOP drills and include providing the first
responder medical support as required by the scenario.
MOTORCADE OPERATIONS - (1 hour lecture/discussion; 4 hour practical exercise)
Organization of motorcade formations discussed. Roles and
responsibilities of agents identified. Methods for driving in
motorcades and completing non-threat driving maneuvers such as turning
corners, changing lanes, three point turns and merging identified.
Practical exercise emphasizes coordination and teamwork.
VEHICLE DYNAMICS - (6 hour lecture/discussion with practical exercises)
Exposure to various aspects of vehicle dynamics in preparation for
learning protective and evasive driving skills. Learning how a vehicle
communicates, proper driving form and where to look are fundamental
building blocks for advanced driving skill sets in the protective
environment.
MOTORCADE ATTACK ON PRINCIPAL DRILLS - (8 hour lecture/discussion; 8.5 hours practice)
Students are exposed to the value of a vehicle as both a defensive and
offensive weapon. Attack on Principals Drills utilized by protective
teams in single vehicle and motorcade configurations will be briefed
and the dynamics associated with motorcade ambush will be discussed.
Historical motorcade attacks (both effective and ineffective) will be
reviewed. Students will practice specific AOP responses including:
Forward & Reverse180s, Reverse Out, Drive Through, Push Out,
Precision Intervention Technique, Vehicle Ramming and Cover &
Evacuate.
FORCE ON FORCE SCENARIOS - (7 hour practical exercises)
Students are given opportunity to be involved in various force on force training scenarios utilizing UTM
® ammunition as additional AOP drills are practiced from both the dismounted formation and motorcade configurations.
FINAL PRACTICAL EXERCISE - (24 hour practical exercise; 2 hour critique)
The student will participate in the advance work, planning and
execution phases of a protective operation for a scenario based
protective mission. Presented with basic threat information, a fixed
resource base, a biographical sketch of a principal and an itinerary,
the students will conduct all activity required to support the
principal throughout the execution phase of the itinerary. A formal
briefing will be prepared and delivered by the student team and the
protective operation will be conducted in the public environment.
EMERGING TACTICS, TECHNIQUES & PROCEDURES - (1 hour lecture/discussion)
Familiarization with the most current and relevant terrorist tactics
utilized at the time of the course. Both effective and ineffective
counter measures will be discussed relative to executive protection
assignments.
NETWORKING FOR EXECUTIVE PROTECTION PROFESSIONALS - (1 hour lecture/discussion)
Information
relative to networking within the industry and résumé development will
be presented and discussed. Emphasis is placed on professional ethics
in both the protection field and the business community in which agents
are working.
FINAL EXAMINATION - (2 hour examination/critique)
The student will be tested by academic examination that will cover all
subjects addressed during the course of this training. Critique and
review of the examination will be conducted in order to aid in the
learning process.
GRADUATION CEREMONY - (.5 hour)
Graduation and certifications are issued to successfully graduating students and a class photograph is taken.
